Definition
A SAM Entity is any organization or business that has completed registration in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov) and received a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI). SAM Entity status is required before a contractor can receive federal contract awards, grants, or other federal assistance. The entity registration includes legal business information, CAGE code assignment, banking and remittance information for electronic payments, points of contact, and various representations and certifications. SAM Entity registrations must be renewed annually to maintain active status. Entity information is validated against authoritative sources during registration. The SAM Entity record becomes the authoritative source of contractor information for federal procurement systems.
