VOSB FAQ
Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) certification verifies that a small business is at least 51% owned and controlled by veterans. While there is no federal-wide VOSB goal, the VA prioritizes verified VOSBs for its contracts.
VOSB requires qualifying veteran ownership and control. SDVOSB additionally requires qualifying service-disabled-veteran ownership and control. SDVOSB has a 5% government-wide prime-contracting goal, while certified VOSBs primarily gain set-aside and sole-source eligibility through VA's Vets First program.
Apply for VetCert through MySBA Certifications at certifications.sba.gov. The current application identifies the veteran-status, ownership, control, and business documents SBA requires.
The VA's Veterans First program gives priority to verified SDVOSBs and VOSBs for VA contracts. Set-asides are applied in order: SDVOSB first, then VOSB, before opening to other small businesses or full and open competition.
