The Dalles Lock & Dam is 192 miles from the mouth of the Columbia River near the city of The Dalles, Oregon. The dam is a concrete gravity and embankment structure that was constructed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (operationally administered by the Portland District) in the 1950s for the purposes of hydroelectric power generation and maintenance of a navigational pool (Lake Celilo).
