Description
The Structural Mechanics Branch (SMB) of the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) currently conducts R&D by operating an 8-ft x 8-ft Blast Load Simulator (BLS-8) that is used to evaluate structural targets subjected to shock waves produced by compressed gasses. To increase the testing capabilities of ERDC beyond the current physical constraints or size of the BLS, SMB is constructing a 12-ft x 12-ft Advanced Blast Load Simulator (ABLS-12) which will soon be used in large scale testing at ERDC. This new system is nearly complete and in the final stages of calibration testing.
