Advanced Opportunity Filters

Combine current source-backed fields to narrow a federal opportunity result set without treating the filter as an eligibility decision.

Filter availability follows source data

The advanced form loads several option lists from the current federal opportunity index. A control can be empty or a notice can omit a field. The interface and stored search model may expose slightly different subsets as the product evolves.

Text and industry

  • Title or keyword text
  • Description text
  • NAICS codes and industry groupings
  • Product and Service Classification codes

Agency and notice structure

  • Department or agency
  • Contracting office
  • Opportunity or notice type
  • CGAC, AAC, and FPDS-related codes where available

Competition and place

  • Set-aside value reported by the source
  • National, state, county, or ZIP-code place of performance
  • Selected state and related location controls

Date windows

  • Posted-date start and end
  • Response-deadline start and end

Practical filtering sequence

  1. 1

    Establish the market scope

Begin with one or two title terms, NAICS codes, agencies, or classification values that describe the work.

  2. 2

    Add competition and notice filters

Select only set-asides and notice types that support the research question. Verify actual eligibility in the official notice.

  3. 3

    Add place and date windows

Use place of performance and dates to manage review volume, not to infer that the business can or cannot compete.

  4. 4

    Inspect the results

Remove one filter at a time if the result set is unexpectedly empty; source records can omit fields or use a different classification.

  5. 5

    Save a reviewed search

After checking several results, save the criteria if it will be reused and enable available notifications if appropriate.

Important limits

  • • The current advanced form does not document contract-value or performance-duration range filters.
  • • Selecting a certification or set-aside label does not verify the business's status or eligibility.
  • • Place-of-performance fields describe the notice, not a guaranteed work location or bidder-residency rule.
  • • A narrowly filtered result set can exclude relevant records with missing or differently coded source data.
  • • Confirm every requirement, date, amendment, and submission instruction in SAM.gov and the solicitation documents.
