Federal Opportunity Search Basics
Search daily-updated SAM.gov opportunity data, narrow the result set, and inspect the official notice before making a pursuit decision.
Source and update scope
The standard opportunity search covers federal notices sourced from SAM.gov and updated daily. SAM.gov and the issuing agency remain authoritative. State and local coverage is not part of this standard federal search; it is scoped separately through Workflow Automation.
Run a search

Start with a clear concept
Use a product, service, program, agency, or known solicitation phrase. Try a narrower title phrase if a broad keyword produces too much noise.

Choose the location scope
Search nationally or use the available state, county, or ZIP-code place-of-performance controls. A place-of-performance filter does not describe vendor eligibility.

Apply relevant filters
Use the filters visible in the current search form, such as agency, set-aside, opportunity type, NAICS, classification, office, and date ranges.

Review several results
Confirm that the titles, agencies, dates, and classifications reflect the intended market before saving the search.
Read the result and detail views
- Opportunity title and agency or office context
- Posted date and response deadline when supplied by the source
- Place of performance
- NAICS, set-aside, notice type, and notice identifier when available
- Description, documents, and official-source link on the detail view
Save useful work
Save an individual opportunity for later review, or save the current search criteria and enable available notifications. Professional includes five searches per day, five saved searches, and unlimited saved opportunities; Max provides the published higher-volume workflow.
Saving a record does not freeze the official notice. Reopen SAM.gov before acting to check for amendments and changed dates.
Search limitations
- • Daily updates are not real-time synchronization with every source change.
- • Search relevance is not an eligibility, compliance, or bid/no-bid determination.
- • Missing or incomplete source fields can affect filtering and display.
- • Saved-search notifications are monitoring aids and are not deadline-delivery guarantees.
